Healthy Tip: Walk & Talk
Updated: Jul 30, 2018
Encourage walking meetings (also called walk and talk) at work! Did you know that Americans are sitting an average 13 hours per day and sleeping an average 8 hours (the lucky ones) resulting around 21 hours of the day spent sedentary. That is kind of scary! no wonder our country is in the top spot , coming in #1 on the list of the 10 most obese countries in the world.
One quick, easy, and simple way to get up and moving is to suggest and advocate for walking meetings at work. Instead of meeting your coworker(s) in an office, boardroom, or for coffee (and probably a baked good) suggest waking around the building or better yet a stroll outside. Additionally, research suggests that walk and talk meetings increase creativity, provide time to "unplug" and promote cognitive engagement, or focus, on the job. Another added bonus.. (I know seriously the benefits are endless!) walking meetings lead to more honest exchanges with employees and are more productive than traditional sit-down meetings.
So grab your coworkers and get walking!
*What are your thoughts on walk and talks? Maybe you already utilize walking meetings or maybe you are thinking "this could never work!" I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
